Understand ISO and Shutter Speed
The need for speed is insatiable, it seems. 1/1000 of a second was as fast as most cameras’ shutters would go, a mere 40 years ago. Now our shutters can whip out 1/4000 or 1/8000 of a second (fast enough to freeze the motion of a hummingbird’s wings), and the new electronic shutter cameras can give us an exposure time of as little as 1/32,000 second! Wow, that’s not much time to get stuff done! That’s why this class is longer. We’ll show you:
- Why shutter speed matters
- Creative use of slow shutter speeds
- When you want to use a tripod
- The trick of balancing shutter speed with your other settings
- How to freeze the action
- Controlling the look of your image
