Day 24 - It really is all happening at the Zoo / by Edward Crim

You knew it had to happen; sooner or later, this Forest Park wandering photographer was going to wind up in the zoo and hangin’ with the lions, tigers and bears (oh, my)! Actually, that day has not yet come, since, even though I was in the Zoo, the closest I got to the carnivores was a sea lion, who, though he might have tried, was unable to get through the polycarbonate separating him from me, resulting in me still blogging about Forest Park.

It was the wall that fascinated me the most; that beautiful bountiful brick boundary that surrounds so much of the Zoo grounds. It wiggles, it winds, it wanders its way up hill and down, around from the north entrance, on past the south entrance, though in some places it is replaced by straight walls and fencing. I want one. Yes, I want a screen of brick slinking and slithering in serpentine splendor past my house instead of the boring fence that now resides between my neighbor and me. I know that good fences are reputed to make good neighbors, yet the undeniably unusual undulations of architect William A. Bernoudy’s beneficent brick barrier have won me over, and as soon as I win the lottery, my own home shall have such a perfect partition paralleling its property.

Did I mention the red panda? He steadily ignored me and concentrated on his breakfast. Photos.

Over the wall is the wide open sky.
