Day 34 - T’was a sunny day. / by Edward Crim

This weekend has been quite a respite from the bitter cold we have been enduring this winter, and today was bright and beautiful from beginning to end. I saw the beginning as I was walking my dog this morning, and it was a doozy. The sun burst over the eastern horizon at least twice its normal size, an intense orange orb, engulfing the world with fire. It made me wish I were in Forest Park.

This afternoon I took appropriate action. After feeding the wife, rescuing the son and having the car towed to a repair shop, I hopped onto my bicycle and made my way to America’s premier urban park. I circled the park looking for the best place to catch the sunset and as I rode I watched the runners, other cyclists, ducks, geese, motorists, families and lovers enjoying the warm weather.

I picked the Deer Creek wild area for its pond which would give me a good reflection of the sunset, and after getting some exercise in and a few photos as well, made my way back there to watch the sun set. It was as good as I had hoped, and when it was over I made my way to Art Hill. That’s when I saw the kite. It was hundreds of feet in the air, its tails fluttering in the breeze. I climbed Art Hill to see who was flying it and found Laszlo Szilagyi. You can check out his artwork at his name .net.
